Slingbox Review

I just borrowed my friend’s Slingbox and tried its SlingPlayer for Mac, the performance is pleasing. You won’t have problem to get default smooth 320×240 video and great audio using broadband speed more than 300kps (My friend tried to connect to his Slingbox located in HK from US through 300kbp connection, and I tried with 500kps from a cafe in HK). If you don’t mind to scarify smoothness or allow a little bumping of voice, you can try 640×480, I guess if you connection can achieve around 700kps, it should be good for that.

剛替一位住美國的香港朋友買了一台，現在他可以身處美國收看香港的電視節目，十分方便實用！
等他安裝好，讓我試一下Mac版的效果怎樣。

認識我的人都知道我不愛回家，背著電腦到處留情是家常便飯的事。
剛巧大學給大學生和員工非常好的福利（可能只有我一個會認為…），可以免費用PCCW或者Y5ZONE的熱點用流動無線寬頻上網。
不過我曾經嘗試過數次，Mac是行不通的，因為要用些很複雜而只有Windows才會有的WiFi設定（Ｍac is too simple？)。
我一直都很失望…
直到今天，其實我本來已經付錢買了一天通行証，才知道現在PCCW可以容許網上登入，不用再試那複雜的WiFi設定！Yeah!

也許我以後更少回家了…

If you have one of these router, worth to consider to freshing the firmware to Tomato. It is a free, open-source, Linux-based firmware for these wireless routers. It gives you more attractive UI and opens up more powerful features for your router.

Like their security patches, Microsoft updates their MSN messager very often. It should be good to bring new and useful features to users. Some friends like to use Live.com to blog to share images and files. But for Linux or Apple users, I think they won’t agree with that. One new great feature annoyed me a lot is “offline message”. If you’re ICQ fans you may know it’s there from very beginning of ICQ history. I don’t know why Microsoft can only have this recently. The worst circumstance is actually many MSN users haven’t updated their messager or using some party web-based alternatives like Meebo & eBuddy. They haven’t yet supported send or reply MSN offline message.

If you don’t know this problem, it would just likes somone leave me message in a wrong number. Communication Disorder!

Then, why I don’t all use ICQ only? Sorry, it’s not my choice at all. When all your friends are using MSN, I really have no reason to stick to ICQ. It’s 2-way communication anyway.

Unfortunately, it’s always true that something popular is not necessary good. Palm & Pocket PC, Mac & PC are 2 other cases.

So, be awared what you’ve sent to me be dropped into black hole!
