OMG! 2000 hit per day?!

Any reason to be so hot for a lazy maintained blog like this? :)

WordPress – Could not create directory. /public_html

I found it’s quite often to see this error when upgrading WordPress or any of it’s plugin.

Could not create directory. /public_html

It’s quite tricky that actually it doesn’t know exact path causing the upgrade problem, and usually changing the permission of web root does’t work still.

May be you can try wp-content/upgrade to 777. It works for me this time.

Flash Player 10.1 works better

I hate Flash so much since it would overheat my MacBook Pro (2.4 C2D) all the time. Adobe just announced Flash player update 10.1 for Mac and it finally applis hardware acceleration for H.264 video. Badly my old MacBook Pro with NVIDIA 8600M isn’t supported. For my new iMac, Flash doesn’t harm that much, but it’s still worth trying. Quite promising, it reduced 50% of CPU usage with my 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5750. Actually if I play the same video in HTML5, it spends even less… :P

If your Mac came with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M or newer graphic chip, you must update your Flash player!

Before Flash Player 10.1 installed

After Flash Player 10.1 installed

WordPress 3.0.1

I tried to update my WordPress to 3.0.1 and got so many problems. It seems not easy and smooth as previous updates.
Problems occurred again and again. “Could not create directory. /public_html.”, “Could not copy file.: /public_html/x/wp-admin/css/theme-editor.dev.css”… “. And I even change files permission wrong and crash my whole blog! Hopefully I can restore everything from backup (ALWAYS backup is eternally true!). And end up I just follow the steps from WordPress and perform manual update, actually it’s pretty easy, just replacing all files, I can’t see the reason why it has so many problems before. Anyway, if you got the same problem, make sure you have stable connection to your host and do manual update! Again, remember to backup your site beforehand!
